The Southwick StoryHeritage & Origins

Southwick was established in 1929 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, by Nicholas and Vito Grieco, brothers who immigrated from Italy. The brothers initially ran a tailor shop in Brooklyn, New York, but relocated to Massachusetts due to the impact of World War I. It was there that they refined their craft as master tailors before officially founding the Southwick factory.

The Birth of American Traditional

In its early days, Southwick's tailoring was heavily influenced by British suit styles. However, they soon introduced a groundbreaking concept: the "natural shoulder"—a naturally rounded shoulder line that utilizes minimal padding. This innovation established a unique sartorial identity that has been passed down to this day as the very essence of American Traditional menswear.

A Legacy of Excellence

Standing as the definitive American tailoring factory, Southwick cultivated a prestigious clientele that historically included U.S. Presidents and prominent business elites. The factory proudly supplied suits and blazers to iconic brands and institutions, including Brooks Brothers, J. Press, Paul Stuart, Cable Car Clothiers, and the U.S. Navy.
Until 2020, Southwick operated under the Brooks Brothers umbrella, manufacturing the brand's highest-tier line of suits. Even as the industry shifted, it remained a rare and steadfast factory committed to "MADE IN USA" manufacturing, handling private label production for numerous respected labels.

A New Chapter: Inheriting the Tradition

On October 5, 2020, the "Southwick" trademark was successfully acquired from the U.S. Golden Fleece Manufacturing Group. In 2022, the brand was officially revived, launching with a focus on its signature blazers produced in the United States.
Moving forward, Southwick is dedicated to preserving the rich history and tradition of American traditional clothing. To further expand the appeal and limitless potential of the brand, Southwick is proudly expanding its manufacturing footprint. Alongside our continued dedication to authentic U.S. production, we are excited to introduce premium Japanese production, ensuring our uncompromising standards of quality reach an even broader global audience.
